"She's So Unusual"
A redesign project paying homage to one of my all-time favorite pop singers      of the 80s. Using a minimalistic design strategy, I transformed Lauper’s first album, “She’s So Unusual,” by shortening her name to “Cyndi” and the album  title to “Unusual.” The addition of the punctuation is emblematic of her truth. With a classic retro 80s design style as my foundation, I used bright colors, simple shapes, clean lines, and a sans-serif typeface (Acme Gothic) in several variations to establish hierarchy throughout. I reimagined the cover photo using a polygonal technique, dividing the image into small triangular sections according to color and shade and replacing each shape color with a matching gradient; thus, giving her image the illusion of a chiseled diamond. By allowing some facial features and embellishments to remain, Lauper appears to be hatching from this exterior shell as if revealing the true hidden gem beneath.
